Washington D.C. - Recently, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women concluded a meeting in New York by condemning Israel for violating women's rights. Israel was the only country named. U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement.

"This is another example of the U.N. singling out Israel and exposes its underlying bias. Friends of Israel and advocates for women's rights should stand shoulder to shoulder in outrage. The United States and Israel share a unique strategic partnership and friendship. We share a commitment to democracy and equality. This U.N. designation would be laughable if it didn't ignore the mistreatment of women in other parts of the world. Women are denied an education, treated as property, and stoned to death not far from Israel's borders. The condemnation of Israel by the U.N. is feckless, ignores truly abhorrent treatment elsewhere, and endangers women's lives."
