Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement on the nomination of Katherine Tai to be United States Trade Representative:

“After much deliberation, I will support Katherine Tai to be United States Trade Representative.

“I am disappointed Ms. Tai did not make an unambiguous commitment to expanding trade. However, during her confirmation hearing, she committed to following the letter and spirit of the law obligating the trade representative to consult with Congress and to follow statutory procedures in trade negotiations. I also appreciate that Ms. Tai has a record of listening to and working with people of differing viewpoints.”
