Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement about his support of the temporary government spending bill, which the Senate passed tonight by a vote of 63-36.
"I voted in favor of the funding bill tonight in order to avoid a disruptive government shutdown. Rather than being mired in such an unnecessary distraction, we should be preparing for a tremendously productive start to the year where we will be tackling Obamacare, reforming our tax code, and overhauling our regulatory system.
"Also, I am pleased that this bill establishes a streamlined process to permit General Mattis to be confirmed as Secretary of Defense.
"Fully funding the Crime Victims Fund and ensuring that those non-taxpayer dollars are properly used has long been a priority of mine. This legislation achieves this worthwhile goal for the third consecutive year and directs hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funds to those harmed by child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other terrible crimes."
