Washington, D.C. –U.S. Senator Pat
Toomey (R-Pa.), together with a number of his Republican colleagues, has
introduced legislation to permanently ban earmarks.
“Earmarks
allow lobbyists and politicians to belly up to the pork barrel buffet in order
to fund pet projects that are based on politics and favors instead of merit,” said
Senator Toomey. “Going back down this road will only fuel more overspending
and further undermine the legislative process.”
This
measure is also co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Steve Daines
(R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), James Lankford
(R-Okla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), and
Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

text of the legislation is available here.
