Philadelphia, Pa. - Following the announcement of President Trump's intent to nominate Karen Marston to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. Senators Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) released the following statements:
"I am pleased that President Trump will nominate Karen Marston to the federal bench in Pennsylvania," said Senator Toomey. "Her experience as a federal prosecutor for nearly two decades will enable her to excel as a judge. I am confident she will serve with fairness and integrity."
"I'm pleased that the President has nominated Karen Marston to sit on the federal bench in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania," said Senator Casey. "Ms. Marston's years of service as an Assistant United States Attorney will serve her well on the federal bench. She has the integrity, intellect and independence necessary to serve the people of Pennsylvania fairly and honorably on the federal bench."
Since 2011, Senators Toomey and Casey have worked together, in a bipartisan fashion, to fill vacancies on the federal bench in Pennsylvania. Together they have now vetted, recommended, and confirmed 22 Federal District Court Judges for Pennsylvania. Only two states - New York and Texas - have had more district court judges confirmed to their federal benches during this time.
Karen Marston serves as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she is Chief of the Office's Narcotics and Organized Crime section. Ms. Marston previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina, receiving the Department of Justice Director's Award in 2002. Ms. Marston has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law. Ms. Marston earned her B.A. from Davidson College and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she served as an Articles Editor on the Wake Forest Law Review
