Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that the Waynesboro Fire Department has been awarded a $45,454 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) by the Department of Homeland Security. Senator Toomey wrote a letter supporting the department's grant application in March.

"Firefighters embody public service in their dedicated work to ensure the safety of those in their community," said Senator Toomey. "I was glad to support the application by the Waynesboro Fire Department and am confident these funds will help them better serve Franklin County and keep them safe while on duty."

The awarded funds will be used to purchase a source capture exhaust system for the department's Potomac Street Fire Station. The station does not currently have this system and the firefighters that work at the station are exposed to exhaust every day.

The Waynesboro Fire Department is comprised of 41 active firefighters who perform firefighting duties and serve a first-due response area consisting of over 25,000 permanent residents and provides service to a number of critical infrastructure facilities in the community.
