Washington, D.C. -- Today, U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) proudly announced the appointments of two Beaver County students to United States service academies.

Justin Nixon, son of William and Kim Nixon, attends Blackhawk High School where he plays baseball and soccer. Taylor serves as Class President and is a Boy Scout. He accepted his offer of appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Derek Scott, son of Walter and Akane Scott, attends Central Valley High School where he plays ice hockey and soccer. He is also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the German Club. He accepted his offer of appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

"Nominating students to the service academies is one of the greatest honors of my office," said Senator Toomey. "I am proud to announce the appointments of Justin Nixon and Derek Scott. These exceptional students underwent a very competitive nomination process and demonstrated that they possess the necessary qualities to be successful at our U.S. service academies. I wish Justin and Derek the best with all of their future endeavors."
