Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today delivered a speech to outline his concerns with the Iran nuclear deal recently presented to Congress. Below are excerpts from his speech.
"This deal would provide a massive present day cash infusion to the Iranian terrorist machine, causing untold destruction and misery in the near term. And in the medium term, it would legitimize and pave the way for the world's most dangerous regime to have the world's most dangerous weapon."
"This deal seriously threatens Israel's security, which is something I care deeply about. But it also jeopardizes American security in a fundamental way. Prime Minister Netanyahu was right when he said, 'This deal won't block Iran's path to a nuclear weapon, it paves the path for a nuclear weapon.'"
"I have read the language, I have studied the deal extensively, I have seen the classified material, I have had numerous briefings, I have consulted experts, I have listened to testimony...and I have concluded that these negotiations have let down the American people."
"I will do everything I can to defeat this deal, and I encourage everyone to do the same."
