Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement after voting in favor of legislation that funds the government through January 19, 2018:
"This continuing resolution keeps the government open through the new year while continuing authorization for a vital foreign intelligence program and providing additional funds for national defense needs. The resolution also ensures the Children's Health Insurance Program is funded and available for the immediate future.
"That said, it is a terrible shame that the Senate shirks the appropriations process in favor of waiting until the 11th hour, with a potential government shutdown looming overhead, to pass stop-gap measures like these. The Senate could have-and should have-approved essential federal funding through the proper appropriations process months ago."
