WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded a more than $50,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Tinicum Township Fire Company. Sen. Toomey wrote a letter supporting the organization's grant application in January 2014.

"I'm pleased to announce this federal grant for the Tinicum Township Fire Company," said Sen. Toomey. "Chief Lee and the firefighters that serve Tinicum Township and the surrounding areas do a terrific job providing land and marine support to most any type of emergency. They also have the significant responsibility of responding to automobile accidents on a busy section of I-95. With this in mind, it is essential that the Company have the equipment it needs to help those who have been involved in an accident."

Annually, the Tinicum Township Fire Company responds to more than 2,000 fire and emergency service calls. The awarded AFG funds will be used by the Company to replace obsolete, and failing hydraulic rescue tools, also known as "jaws of life."

"The Tinicum Township Fire Company is very grateful for this Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The provided funds will allow us to replace out-of-date and failing rescue equipment that is often used during serious car accidents. We thank Sen. Toomey and his staff for their support and guidance during the application process," said Chief Walt Lee, Tinicum Township Fire Department.
