WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded a nearly $25,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to New Haven Hose Company in Fayette County. Sen. Toomey wrote a letter of support on behalf of the organization's grant application in December 2013.

"I'm pleased to announce this federal grant for the New Haven Hose Company," said Sen. Toomey. "Volunteer firefighters embody public service in their dedicated work to ensure the safety of others and I'm confident that these funds will aid the New Haven Hose Company in its efforts to serve the good people of Connellsville."

The New Haven Hose Company, which is the sole provider of fire protection services in Connellsville, applied for the AFG in order to replace obsolete hoses, supply lines, and nozzles that fail to meet safety requirements established by the National Fire Protection Association.

"The New Haven Hose Company is grateful to receive an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. These funds will play an essential role in ensuring that the New Haven Hose Company is able to comply with recent changes to fire safety protocol by allowing for the purchase of upgraded hoses, supply line, and nozzles. We thank Sen. Toomey for his excellent support of volunteer firefighters and his assistance during the AFG process," said Chief Robert M. Topper, New Haven Hose Company.
