| | Pro-Growth Tax Reform | | This week, President Trump released an outline for pro-growth tax reform that focuses on job creation, making the United States a competitive place to do business and expanding opportunity for all Americans. Simplifying the code, lowering high tax rates, and eliminating special interest loopholes will promote domestic economic growth, create jobs, and raise wages. The best economic stimulus for the middle class, who have seen their wages stagnate and tax bills rise over the last decade, is a well-paying job. The President's plan will help deliver this goal with its focus on lower rates, investment, and growth. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate and the administration to develop and refine a solid pro-growth plan. They also provide hundreds of talented workers with good paying jobs in northwest Pennsylvania. Recently, I visited the facility in Erie to get a firsthand look at the great work these men and women do to ensure that essential military vehicles, such as the Osprey Helicopter, operate as they should. Over the past two weeks, I sat down and did several interviews and took questions detailing my thoughts on Judge Neil Gorsuch's confirmation to the Supreme Court, tax reform, Syria and North Korea, health care reform, and President Trump's first 100 days in office. To read or listen to any of these interviews, please see the summary provided below. | | | | Honoring an American Hero | | I am working with Senator Casey and Congressman Tim Murphy to rename the U.S. Post Office in Canonsburg on West Pike Street after Canonsburg Police Officer Scott Bashioum. While responding to a domestic violence call on November 10, 2016, Officer Bashioum was killed in the line of duty. Officer Scott Bashioum devoted his entire adult life to making his community and our country a safer place to live, work, and raise a family. For 29 years, Officer Bashioum served in the United States Air Force and was deployed during both the Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom. After retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant, Officer Bashioum joined the Canonsburg Police Department while also serving as the Assistant Chief at the Slovan Fire Department. I can think of no greater compliment than to say Officer Bashioum embodied what it means to be a public servant. Renaming the Canonsburg Post Office after Officer Bashioum is a small yet important step we can take to honor his life and legacy.
