| | In Appreciation of Our Law Enforcement Officers | Pennsylvania's 25,000 law enforcement officers represent the very best of our commonwealth. Their sense of service means they miss out on holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays with loved ones. It also means they run towards danger and chaos while others seek safety and shelter. This past Wednesday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day - a time to reflect on the immeasurable sacrifice police officers and their families make every day in order to keep our communities safe. But law enforcement deserves our gratitude and appreciation every day, so I encourage you to thank those who don't hesitate to put themselves between us and peril. You can read stories of heroic officers from Pennsylvania in a column I wrote for LancasterOnline.com here. | | | Statement on Ongoing Government Shutdown | This week, President Trump addressed the nation in support of boosting security at our southern border. Contrary to what my Democratic colleagues continue to say, the $5.7 billion that President Trump is requesting would not be used to build a 2,000 mile wall. Rather, these funds would be used to maintain and expand the existing 350 miles of security fencing at priority locations identified by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. I support boosting funding for security and humanitarian aid at our southern border provided taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively. Senate Democrats used to share this view, as they repeatedly supported billions for this objective prior to President Trump's election. With this in mind, I continue to think that it is possible for President Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to reach a deal that ends this partial government shutdown, boosts border security funding, and ensures that hundreds of thousands of government workers receive paychecks. | | | Celebrating PA's Agriculture Industry | Every year, I look forward to attending the Pennsylvania Farm Show. One of my favorite events of the year, the Farm Show is full of great people, delicious food, and opportunities to learn about Pennsylvania's agriculture industry. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural exposition held under one roof in the entire country! It has thousands of animals, exhibits, and other attractions for Pennsylvanians of all ages. I cannot imagine a better way to showcase Pennsylvania's $185 billion agricultural industry. Thank you to everyone who put on this year's show. I'm already counting down to next year's! | | | New Harrisburg Office | Effective January 14th, my Harrisburg office will be moving.
