Senator Toomey Announces Federal Grant for First Responders in Southwestern Pennsylvania

June 29, 2020

Johnstown, Pa. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded an almost $875,000 Assistance to Firefighters- COVID-19 Supplemental Grant to nearly 70 fire companies and EMS providers in the southwestern Pennsylvania region. These funds will be used to purchase additional personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Nanty Glo Fire Company in Cambria County submitted the application on behalf of the region.

"Ensuring that all emergency responders have the PPE they need to better protect themselves in the line of duty has been a priority of mine since the COVID-19 crisis began earlier this year," said Senator Toomey. "I am very pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has approved the application submitted by the Nanty Glo Fire Company on behalf of itself and dozens of other departments in the region."

The awarded funds will be used to purchase PPE including N-95 masks, face shields, and gloves. Senator Toomey wrote a letter supporting this grant application earlier this month.
