Toomey’s Statement on the Vote to Confirm Dr. Tom Price
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement regarding the vote to confirm Dr. Tom Price as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services:
"Dr. Price will be a terrific HHS Secretary and I am delighted to vote to confirm him.
"None of the prior 22 HHS secretaries has the breadth of experience in both medicine and policy as Dr. Tom Price, who has been a successful surgeon with more than 20 years of practice.
"Dr. Price has a unique, well-informed perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of the health care system. He has put forward thoughtful approaches to reform health care so patients and their doctors - not bureaucrats - are in charge of medical decisions. He has also worked tirelessly to strengthen the Medicare program on behalf of millions of senior citizens.
"The job of HHS secretary is critical to undoing the damage caused by Obamacare. Dr. Price understands that as we transition to a better health care system where Americans have more affordable choices in coverage, we must not pull the rug out from under anyone who is currently covered by Obamacare. Dr. Tom Price is the right person for this job."
