Senate Poised to Pass Casey-Toomey Resolution Congratulating the Pittsburgh Penguins on their Fourth Stanley Cup
Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) introduced a resolution to congratulate the Pittsburgh Penguins and their loyal fan base on the team's Stanley Cup championship victory. After defeating the San Jose Sharks in six games, Pittsburgh now holds four Stanley Cup Championships, winning the Cup in 1991, 1992, 2008 and 2016.
"With Mike Sullivan at the helm, the Pittsburgh Penguins - led by Captain and Conn Smythe winner Sidney Crosby - turned around their season and proved to be the best team in hockey. From the dazzling goaltending of Matt Murray to the speed and skill of the ‘HBK' line, the Pens' performance up and down the lineup in the Stanley Cup playoffs was dominating," said Senator Toomey. "Through grit, determination, and remarkable focus in the face of adversity, the Penguins overcame a talented San Jose team. Congratulations to the Penguins, their loyal fans, and the city of Pittsburgh on an unforgettable season."
"This championship is a great moment for Pittsburgh and a great achievement for one of hockey's legendary franchises, the Pittsburgh Penguins," Senator Casey said. "The turnaround of this Penguins team from December to June was nothing short of remarkable. Like the city of Pittsburgh has over many years, this team showed it has the ability to fight back, come back and reach the top."
