Casey, Toomey Applaud Nomination of Cheryl Ann Krause to U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

Wednesday, Feb 5

Washington, D.C. - Following the announcement that President Obama has nominated Cheryl Ann Krause to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which includes parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) released the following statements:

"I'm pleased that President Obama has nominated Cheryl Krause to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Cheryl has been a partner at two major law firms in Philadelphia while remaining active in pro bono and civic efforts throughout Philadelphia," Sen. Casey said. "Cheryl first began her academic studies as an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania and further advanced the mission of one of Philadelphia's great law schools as a member of the faculty. I'm hopeful that the Senate Judiciary Committee will move her nomination forward on a bipartisan basis so she can soon be considered by the full Senate."

"I am pleased that President Obama has nominated Cheryl Ann Krause to serve on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals," said Sen. Toomey. "In addition to her unquestioned commitment to the law, Ms. Krause has a wealth of legal experience in public service and working in private practice. I am confident she will excel as a federal appellate judge and I look forward to her joining our other talented federal jurists on the Third Circuit."

Cheryl Ann Krause

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford Law School, Cheryl Ann Krause has worked extensively as a public servant and in private practice.

From 1993 to 1994, Krause clerked for Judge Alex Kozinski of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1994 to 1995.

Following her time with Justice Kennedy, Krause worked as a lecturer and visiting scholar at Stanford Law School, as well as a law clerk at Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe LLP in San Francisco. Krause was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York City from 1996 to 1997, and then served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York from 1997 to 2002.

Krause returned to Philadelphia in 2003, where she joined Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin as a shareholder. In 2006, she became a partner at Dechert LLP, where she specializes in white-collar criminal defense and government investigations.

Since 2003, she has regularly taught courses at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she founded and leads an appellate litigation externship program. She also founded the Philadelphia Project in 2011, a partnership between Dechert LLP and the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia to improve the quality of education for children with disabilities. Since 2007, Krause has served as outside counsel for the City of Philadelphia's Board of Ethics and on the Board of Directors of the Committee of Seventy, a non-partisan civic organization focused on fair elections and government integrity.
